The Mucke Laboratory is inviting applications from talented students to join its highly interactive team of creative scientists at the Gladstone Institutes in San Francisco. Our group focuses on fundamental questions such as the roles of glia and neuronal DNA repair in cognitive functions as well as on mechanisms and treatment of cognitive disorders ranging from dementias to epileptic encephalopathies and autism spectrum disorders. We use rodent and tissue culture models to dissect relevant processes at the molecular, cellular, network and behavioral level. Experimental models are also used to develop and evaluate novel therapeutic strategies. The clinical relevance and potential of these strategies are assessed through interdisciplinary collaborations involving clinical programs and other partners.
The Gladstone Institutes is an independent, not-for-profit research organization that is affiliated with the University of California, San Francisco. Postdoctoral candidates should possess a PhD, MD, or both and have a strong background in neuroscience or other relevant areas of biomedical research, as well as an outstanding record of academic achievements and research productivity. Like others who completed training in this innovative research program, successful candidates will be well prepared to compete for leadership positions in academia and industry.
